Speaker: Professor Arlene Fiore, MIT Department of Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences

Effective ozone control programs require knowledge of an area’s sensitivity to NOx versus VOC emissions.  Since the mid-1990s, satellite instruments have retrieved two chemical species (nitrogen dioxide and formaldehyde) that can serve as proxies for these precursor emissions.

Dr. Fiore will briefly introduce approaches to diagnose ozone formation chemistry from space, highlight a recent study identifying long-term trends in ozone formation chemistry in several U.S. cities, and share ongoing work during summer 2018 field campaigns in the New York City and Baltimore/D.C. regions, with an emphasis on changes in ozone sensitivity to its precursors.

Join us for this informative webinar.  You can find a related article in the November issue of AWMA’s EM magazine by Professor Fiore et al., "Satellite Data for Use in the National Ambient Air Quality Process," posted here:, publications tab.
